Global Express Question

I was looking through some photos on the database of the Global Express. This was one of the reamarks on the photos, "C-FKGX (cn 9004) back at home. This is the AC was flown at over the speed of sound during tests. Also can cruise at .98 @ FL510." I dont doubt that it was flown over Mach 1.0 in tests. But cruise @ Mach .98?!? I thought the Citation X was the fastest Biz Jet @ Mach .92, am I wrong?

You gotta remember that during certification test flights, the aircraft are often flown outside the of the intended flight envelope.

Aircraft are obviously capable of operating faster, higher, or heavier than the certificated limitations, but the factor of safety may be reduced to unacceptable levels for normal flight.

Short answer: Pretty much any biz-jet is "capable" of achieving mach 0.9 and higher. Just level off and apply full power.....but it's never wise to exceed the published limitations outside of certification flight testing.

Not only that, but the reliabilty, fuel burn and range would all be below specification levels.

Global Express has a high speed cruise capability at M.88. The X of .92
