Thu Apr 25, 2002 12:52 am

I have something on my mind that is realy bugging me.
hughes and mc donald douglas are 2 different companies right?
the MD 500d seems to be also called teh hughes 500 d sometimes. why the hell does it have 2 makes. i dont undeerstand. its the same with lots of companies. bell and eurocopter? i dont understand. and also sometimes the caption of the 500d on a.net sais hughes/md 500d
how can it have to companies?

Back in the late eightes (or there-abouts) MD bought out Hughes (or their helicopter production at least). So the Hughes 500 became the MD 500. I think it was mid-production on the D model, so both manufacturer's names have been used. When the E model came out, it was strictly, the MD 500E. Sorry for the lack of details, but that's all I really remember of the whole transaction. I'm sure someone will follow with the juicy bits.  Smile

On a side note, Has everybody seen those MDC embossed wheel caps that go on the wheels of Mcdonnell Douglas products?

I frankly am shocked that Boeing hasn't asked for an AD on them to force operators of those aircraft to replace them with ones that are embossed with the name, "Boeing"
