A300's And DC-8's Up In Under 7000ft.!

Wed Jun 19, 2002 3:21 pm

Tonight I was watching the FedEX and UPS flights out of CLE, and I noticed that the three A300s and the one DC-8 all used runway 6L. 6L is 7096 ft. long. Now I read that the DC-8 needs at least 8000 ft in order to rotate, and around the same for the A300. The DC-8 goes to Rockford IL, and the two FedEx A300s go to wherever their big hub is, I think it's MEM. As for the UPS A300, I don't know where it goes, somewhere not too far I suppose.

Now, given the cities these planes fly to, and for simplicity each was carrying a full cargo load, how much fuel would be in the DC-8's and the A300s' tanks?

Depending on weather of course. The DC8 would have a fule load of approx 45,000 pounds.

Recall that United's last DC-8-71 flights were off of Kona's 6500-ft runway to SFO.
