Is This Jet A 777 Or 737?

Sat Jun 22, 2002 3:52 am

Hi guys.

This question has nothing to do with dis-respect to the photographer of the photo below, because I'm questioning him.

He states that this is a photo of a 777-2. To me it's profile looks more like a newer version of a Boeing 737, perhaps an 800 series or NG.

Can someone please let me know for sure.

It is a 777.

If it where a 737 you would be able to see the main gear tires.

Sorry Mr Spaceman, it looks like a 777 to me!

Size of the engines, shape of the wing and the tail cone are good indicators.

As the wheels of the main u/c are not visible, it should not be a 737. The engine pods are also a bit too stubby for a 737. It may well be a 777.

Best regards

Hi guys.

Thanks for clearing the cobwebs out of my head. The fact that you can't see the tires should have been a dead give-away to me. I simply didn't notice that.

I felt that the engines looked to close to the fuselage to be a 777.

Once again, no dis-respect to the photographer. I was just very curious.

But are the 737 main wheels uncovered on ALL variants?

Yes. all 737 gears are uncovered. However, the 707 and 727, which have many common design points, have gear doors.
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

Looks like an Air France B777-200 with the GE90 engines. Does anyone happen to agree with me?

Singapore777,
I think it's an Air France. The picture was taken in Austria and there's only a few other 777 operators with an all white bottom and white engines.

Erm although saying that it looks a little big for that

That doesn't look anything like a 737. Just look at the size of the engines in relation to the fuselage.

It's definitely a 777, the engines look really big and the wingspan looks massive, plus the fuselage is long and sleek-looking.

Hi guys.

In my first post about the photo, I asked if "someone could please let me know for sure" what type of airliner it was....which you have succeeded in doing, and for that I thank you.  Big thumbs up

>Ben88, remember I mentioned the 737-800 or other NG's (because of their stretched fuselage) not 737 100s, or 200s. My mind isn't that blank regarding airliner profiles. Although I obviously did have a "momentary lapse of reasoning".

The fuselage, the wings' shape, the covered rear landing gear and the engines are proof that this is a 777.

No doubt it's a 777; the 737 has a shorter hull.
