DC-10 Roll Trim

Sat Jun 22, 2002 6:34 am

Just flew from Rome to Detroit on NW 65 DC-10 last Sunday.
Sat in 38A...noticed that the left inboard aileron and 2 of the roll spoilers were slightly up for almost the entire flight.
Is that due to roll trim input by the pilots? Or is it by the autopilot?
Under what situation would roll trim be required? Or can one use differential thrust to achieve the same results?

Since the aircraft are now being maitained buy non NWA Tech's. when in "check". It is probley out of rig. We have seen some aircraft that come in from third party maintenance providers and the rigging is far from correct. We also have in check a 747F that was never maintained by NWA during its "check" cycle and is in house for its first NWA "light" check after compiling more than 2500 write ups mgmt decided to give it a "heavy" check now the write ups are over 4000.

Thanks, Airliner rx....
I recall seeing some guy coming out to inspect the left wing as soon as we pulled into the gate at do you fix that? Does it require a long time?
BTW, when is NWA planning to retire it's it when the A330 deliveries begin..when will that be?
The DC-10 is really beginning to show it's age...on both my flights last week the earphone channel and volume control weren't working properly....ok for a short flight but when you are stuck on a 10 hour flight, it can be annoying.

Mhsieh, a control rig or throttle rig is a fairly major job, you can't really do it on the ramp. Maybe the engineer you saw was there for something else, or he was there at the request of the inbound crew due to the situation you describe, but there isn't much he could do during a turnaround.
