747's Cockpit Overhead Panel Questions?

Thu Jul 18, 2002 2:06 am

Hi guys.

In the first photo below of the Lufthansa 747's overhead panel, you can see a black switch that's labled EMERGENCY LIGHTS (near the center of the pix). Are these emergency lights located on the outside of the 747 (if so, where) or is this a test switch for the flight deck's emergency warning lights?

In this next photo of an Alitalia 747's cockpit, you can see a switch/lever in the middle of the overhead panel that's shaped like a ball. Most of the 747 cockpit photos on A.Net don't have a control on their overhead panel that's looks like a silver ball. Out of pure curiosity, can someone please let me know what system this ball controls.

Hello VC-10.

Thanks for your reply. OK great, now I know the answers. For some reason, the thought of emergency lighting in the cabin aisles didn't occur to me.

Take Care,
