Vision Requirements For Atc?

Thu Aug 01, 2002 4:28 am

Are there any vision requirements to become and air traffic controller? Is it possible to be certified while having vision in only one eye?

Hello cactusA319,

I don't know what unit is used in the USA but in France, as well as other European countries, requirement is for:

* 10/10 to both eyes although down to 6/10 is permitted by the time you recover 10/10 with glasses.

* No color blindness

Actually, when you're taking your medical, there's a whole set of different vision tests (colors, relief, exophoria...)

Check with your CAA. Here, the requirement is a maximum correction of 3.0 dioptries to reach 1.0 vision.

Cheers,
Fred

In the states the requirment is to have a second class medical. What that entails, I don't remember. Check the FARs.
At worst, you screw up and die.
