What Does The Term Furlowed Mean

Fri Oct 18, 2002 12:41 pm

I know this could possibly be the most stupid question you have ever heard. But what does it mean for a pilot to be furlowed. I know it means losing your job. But does it mean you get it back once the situation gets better or do you stay on the books. I have never heard it said in New Zealand apart form on A.net. Sorry for asking such a stupid question but I would Appreciate any replys. Thanks

you are basicly layed off. you keep your senority number, and will be rehired if the company rebounds. To get another job however, your new employer may require you to surender your old number to garuntee that you don't quit in a year. being on furlough also doesn't garuntee you will return to work first. some regionals her in the US are hiring, despite still having un recalled pilots.
When in doubt, one B pump off

You mean FURLOUGED. It usually means, at least in this business, that you are temporarily layed off, due to a downturn in traffic and resulting schedule and staff reduction, with recall rights for a specified amount of time, depending on seniority.

...and if you looked in a dictionnary, it really spells FURLOUGH(ed) -
These ace pilots can fly, but... spelling is not airmanship...
Dont you ever use the "spell check feature...?" -
