FLs Over CIS, Russia And China

Tue Dec 17, 2002 10:40 am

Hello all,

I was wondering, if anybody has any idea what FLs are used in CIS, Russia and China. I know that they still use the metric system, but that's it. How are they FLs separated?

Thanks for your help,

They do still use Metric. In Russia:

Westbound: 1200M to 7800M in 600M steps, thence 8600M (FL252), 9600M (FL315), 10600M (FL348), 11600M (FL381).

Eastbound: 900M to 8100M in 600M steps, thence 9100M (FL299), 10100M (FL331), 11100M (FL364), 12100M (FL397)

In China:
Westbound: 600M to 6000M in 600M steps, thence 7200M (FL236), 8400M (FL276), 9600M (FL315), 10800M (FL354), 12000M (FL394).

Eastbound: 900M to 5700M in 600M steps, thence 6600M (FL216), 7800M (FL256), 9000M (FL295), 10200M (FL335), 11400M (FL374)

So on a flight from Europe through Russia then China, you have to do a couple of flight level adjustments as you reach their respective FIR boundaries.

Hello Cx_flyboy,

Thank you very much for you input.

Do you know, if China and Russia plans to adapt the feet units as well?

It looks very messy, when one must overfly both countires.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Thanks once more,

cheers,

The metric system makes more sense really, but it's complicated when the countries have different requirements for levels.

Rendezvous,

I had never thought that metric system maks more sence in aviation. I am used to the metric system otherwise. Yes, I know, I am complicated. To me feet are more clearer than meters in FLs.

Cheers,

Andrej L.
