MD-11 And RR

Does anyone know why none of the airlines operating the MD-11 took the RR trent engines offered.

Air Europe ordered the RB211-524L with their MD-11 order. However in 1991 Air Europe went under before the aircraft could be built and therefore the RR option was dropped.

Aaahhhh yes, I actually remember the artists rendering of the RR powered MD-11. A very sharp looking bird.
I'm not a real aeronautical engineer, I just play one on Airliners.net.
