Cockpit Windows 757/767/777

Tue Jan 28, 2003 4:49 pm

Does the 757, 767, and 777 share the same cockpit windows?
Also, are there any improvement made to the cockpit windows on the 717 or is it exactly the same as the original DC-8??
Thanks.

I dunno about the 757, but the 767 share the same cockpit windows as the 777. I was told that if you see the cockpit of the 777 from the outside, you can see where the "module" is...

ask a 777 pilot... not me...

I fly the 767, and have jumpseated many times in the 757. I haven't been in the cockpit of a 777 though.

I don't think they are the same between the 757 and 767, because the fuselage is much wider on the 76, and since the windows go the same distance back, I think they must be bigger (wider) on the 76 than the 75.

Hopefully if the rumors about us (Hawaiian) getting 757's are true, I'll be able to tell you first hand about the difference.  Smile

Section 41 (fwd bulkhead to just aft of door 1) is different on both A/C but you can see the common fwd half of Sect 41 by the sunlight reflection in this pic, which is the same as the fwd half of Section 41 on a 767.

You can see in these pics that after the common section is where the differences occur between the 76 and 777.

Was told previously by a Boeing chap that the 777 essentially uses the front section of the 767. There was no redesign of the windows to save cost.

The 777 No.1 windows are flat panels with 2 structural (chemically tempered I believe) glass layers made by PPG.

The cockpit windows on the 757 look the same also. There's no reason why they couldn't be, as essentially they have the same flight deck inside on the 75/76.

You've gotta be careful when u answer like that.

I'm 100% sure that the No.1 windows btwn the B757/B767s are interchangeable. But I don't think that the No.2 and No. 3 windows are. Will have to confirm when I get back to work. But I remember seeing awhile back that there are different part numbers. I also

You've got a point! From what I can see they look the same shape, but they could be slightly different of course. It would seem to make sense that they were the same, as this would save money etc, but who knows!
