AF,DL,AA,Southwest,SN,BA,Swiss,Varig,NW ..........and the list could go on endlessly. What do these airlines have in common?Well, not tricky at all , they all do have blue seats in their aircraft,at least in coach class . True blue seems to be the preferred colour of a swiftly growing number of airlines . Is there any particular reason for this ?

As far as i know, i don't think it's anything to do with the technical side. Blue seems to be the "standard" colour for a lot of airlines, blue works well with the white interior of an aircraft than say, yellow or green. I think blue is just prefered by some airlines just like it seems a lot of car interiors are either grey or navy blue.

it might have something to do with blue being a vely calming colour: different colours have different effects on people, check these out:

I heard that red seats were making people airsick back in the 70s and 80s. So I guess blue seats do not have that effect.

Blue is a much lighter color than most and creates the least amount of electro-magnetic interference.....

Colors affect our moods. It is said that blue - contrary to red - causes the body to produce calming chemicals.
According to Russian scientists, it is actually a combination of green and blue: Exactly the color you find in cockpits of Russian fighters:

My wife who is working towards her Masters Degree in Psychology agrees. She says that most corporations use blue in their logos because it symbolizes trustworthiness. Perhaps the airlines (who generally use a lot of blue in their logos as well) are trying to convey that impression among their passengers.

But the Southwest example you gave above, MASB747, that picture is from Silver One. The seats are a silver-grey. But you are correct that we are changing our interiors so that blue is the dominant color.

"Colors affect our moods."

I agree, I was going to say the same thing. I think blue is a calming color and it symbolizes maturity and trustworthiness.

Difference between blue and red: Look at a cloudless sky. Look at a fire. Which one is more calming?
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Aloges, ya´da man !!  Wow!

Btw Going to the fireplace and sitting around a crackling camp fire eating, chatting & singing with buddies happens to be the most relaxing thing I can think of.....  Smile/happy/getting dizzy try out and you´ll see what I mean.

Cheers,

MASB747: Pseudo-technical reasons aside, there are any number of other reasons why an aircraft may have any particular color scheme for its interiors. Several years ago I worked for a major carrier that had, what I considered, to be a fairly ugly interior in its Airbus aircraft. All the colors for that particular fleet were chosen by the wife of the CEO of the company. That's what she liked, so that's what they bought. End of story. Kinda made you wonder what the inside of their house looked like, though. Regards,
