How Did The Blackout In The Northeast Affect Ops?

Fri Aug 15, 2003 11:21 pm

After the lights went out in our office, I went home, changed, and headed for Farmingdale Republic Airport. (What else COULD you have done? Sat home and sulked in the heat??)

AS I watched a varietly of general aircraft going about their daily tasks, I wondered how you guys, in the field, were affected?

How did your day go??

For anyone that flew over affected areas, what did it look like? It must have been pristine!

d imagine that all the airports in the affected areas went to ILS appropaches. it would be really wierd to be on the ILS to rwy 4 at LGA and see no lighs in the city. id love to see a picture of that!

In the AFD, there's a list of runways throughout the country at very large airports that will be used in situations such as this large power failure. I think it said they have an independent electric system. I'll try to find it and post it here.
