Raked Wingtips Ever Proposed For The 762/763?

Thu Aug 21, 2003 8:24 am

With the success of the raked winglet design on the 764ER as well as the 777NGs...... has Boeing ever considered offering them as a retrofit for 762s/763s?

Would their wing be able to support them?

One would imagine the potential savings may be worth it, particularly if the 737 family is of any indication.

There was a plan to offer the 767-300ER/LR with the -400's wing. The Raked Winglets/Tip were to be an option. The Raked "winglets" would most likely never have been seen on the -300LR because this would limit the amount of wing loading (Weight the wing can carry)

This was back when the 767-400ERX aka -400LR was still being offered (Ethiopian Airlines had orders for 4) When the -400ERX was cancled any chance of there being an -300LR ended. The next week the 747-500/600 was droped.

The -300LRs MTOW would actualy have been more than the -400ERs MTOW. [This is also true with the 777-200LR vs 777-300ER]
