Light On 737 Flap Track Fairings

Mon Aug 25, 2003 3:35 am

I recently noticed upon viewing this picture that on the 733's outboard flap track fairings there is a white light. There appears to be another one on the starboard side of the aircraft but it is turned off. Are these landing lights? Taxi lights? This is the first time I've noticed these lights. Apologies if this topic has been discussed before. Any ideas?

Those are landing lights; the starboard one must be either broken or at an angle that didn't let the photographer see the light.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Yeah.. if you look, you can see the light on the stab. side.. it isn't on. Probably burned out.

Specifically, the lights in question are "outboard" landing lights, and in the photo, one is indeed just burned out. These outboard landing lights are on all of the 737 series from the -100 to the -500, but not on the next generation
(-600 thru -900). On those aircraft, the lights have been relocated to the underside of the fuselage (near the centerline) just forward of the wing. The "inboard" landing lights are the same on all models, located at each wing root behind a plexiglass cover.
