Commercial WX Update On 126.7

Wed Sep 03, 2003 11:43 am

Maybe this is a dumb question, but here goes. I was flying enroute from CYFD to CYOS on Monday and monitoring 126.7 when I heard a JetsGo flight that had just departed YYZ request the current weather in YYC. This struck me as odd as I'd never heard a commercial branded airline flight do this before. Admittedly I don't sit around monitoring the FSS station for kicks all the time so maybe this happens a lot, but I would have thought that JetsGo dispatch would have given them the current info before they even departed YYZ or they would have had some sort of company channel to get it from rather than use the method they did. Not that I have a problem with what they did of course, I just thought it was odd, does anyone know if this is normal for a pseudo major commercial operation?

Normal....and has worked good for over thirty years.
When airbourne, use whatever is available at the time....that's what it is there for...to USE.
Simple as that.

Yet again, Capt Infallible speaks. Just couldn't post without that final comment, could you? The ONLY time he speaks is to be critical of pilots who, unlike himself who can do no wrong, are human.

You know, I have "been involved in airline checking/training worldwide" for many years also, I just don't feel the need to constantly point out the failings of others while touting my own superiority. One question. Is it lonely at the top? I'd always heard that it was.

Don't worry about it guys, am in the office now...the Chief Pilot reports to me,
and HE is even more hard-nosed than I.
Ain't it wonderful?
