Difference Of Length Btween B707-138B And B720B

Mon Sep 29, 2003 12:24 am

Dear Friends ,

the diff. of fuselage length btween the B707-138B and the B720B is about less than 1 metre .

Would you Know if this small diff is in the FORE part of the fuselage( I mean before the wings) or in The BACK 0r REAR part of the fuselage ( i mean the part bhind the wings )

That is to build a model !

many tks . Brgds

It may be that "half" of the difference was forward of the wing, and "half of it would be behind... basically the 138 was a reduction in the fuselage length from the standard 120... And like you say, this ends up making it look much like a 720...
For me, my clue as to which one was which, I would look at the overwing exits (2 on each side for the 138, only 1 for the 720)... and as usual there were options, the EAL 720s had the double overwing exits... That keeps the "spotters" busy, all these differences Mr. Boeing did, probably, his only motive was to confuse A.Net members...
Be sure to put a T/C on top of the engine #4 inlet, the 138B had 3 T/Cs (none on #1) - I flew an ex-Bouraq 138B once, for its last "retirement flight" from Burbank to Marana (a desert airfield)... the only time I was ever in this specific type of 707...
These 138B and 720Bs were "Rocket Ships" with JT3D-1 engines. The 138B also had pretty good long range capability, despite the fact that it only had the fuel capacity of the standard 707-120 series, obviouly thanks to its reduced weight.
Sorry, I cannot be more specific about the 138...

One book says the 707-138 and 720 are the same length-- 138 ft 10 inches over the fuselage.
