Airbus-Boeing Spare Parts

Sat Nov 01, 2003 6:59 am

Has Airbus and Boeing any common spare parts that match in planes made by both companies ?

I've seen an A300 trust reverser on a 767 before. Both had CF6 engines on wing. So I guess you caould say yes in regards to engines.

That doesn;t count as engines are not manufactured by Boeing or Airbus.

The A300 is sometimes referred to as the two-engined DC-10. Many of the systems are similar (or exact copies). For example, the pneumatic controller on the A300 is identical to the one on the DC-10.

Another fun fact, the ashtray on the aft lavatory door exterior is an exact match with the rear seat ashtrays on the original VW Beetles. They even have the VW logo on the back side of them with the part number!

MxCtlr:

Yes I am aware of that. Did you also know that the pylon on the A300 is the same as on the DC-10?

P.S. Is the pneumatic controller actually made by Boeing or Airbus?  Big grin

ROFL!  Laugh out loud I wonder if they have to pay anything to the R&D department of VW for that!  Big thumbs up

However, this seems to be everything but a stupid decision. Are there other examples like that?

Many of the pack system components are also the same on the DC-10 and A300. Pack Flow Contol Valve, Pack Flow Sensor and Plenum for starters...

It's similar, but not the same. The pylon/wing attachment is a lot different.

The fine folks at Garrett, Air Research, Allied Signal, Honeywell (whatever they're called today) in Tempe claim credit for a considerable portion of the pneumatic design on both planes.
