Cx Flyboy How Was The Delivery Flight?

Fri Nov 07, 2003 1:54 am

Apologies if this has been posted but I remember Cx flyboy talking about the possibility of him going on a delivery flight. I was wondering how that went?

Yes I made it back in one piece. There was a small delay for a couple of days as some last-minute things were rectified, but after that we departed on a beautiful sunny day back to Hong Kong on a 14hours flight.

Here are some photos:

Sounds like you had a great time, CxFlyboy! That's a beautiful new plane, congrats on being part of the delivery crew.

Tell us, what does a fresh new 777 smell like??

Question:

There where normally the steering column would be - there's a crank, normally behind the column, below the instruments.

what is that for?

Adjusting the column?
Adjusting pedals?
Ringing the F/A to bring coffee?
Putana da Seatbeltz!

707cmf,

They can't delete my photos because there are no photos on this website which can substitute these photos! If I had linked a photo of a US Air 737 landing, then they would delete it, as there are plently on this website!

747FSPilot, Brunswick737,

A new 777 does indeed smell almost exactly like a new car (without leather). A very nice smell indeed!

Nudelhirsch,

That crank is to wind the sunroof back!
Actually, it's to wind the rudder pedals closer, or further away to you.

Cx flyboy,

When you look into the logs of such an aircraft before the delivery flight, how many hours does the aircraft usually have on it at this time?

So... How many hours in total from testing to repositioning the aircraft did the manufacturer do, before you guys were able to take it away.

EmiratesA345,

Normally when an aircraft is rolled out of the hangar, it will do a test flight pilotted by Boeing test pilots. This is called a B1 flight. All going well, this is the only Boeing flown test flight the aircraft does. If there are any issues, they may do a B2, or even B3.....as many as it takes. When they are happy, it is handed over to the company's test crew (With Boeing supervision). This is called the C1. Any subsequent flights are C2, C3 etc...
Ideally, an aircraft can get away with a B1 and a C1, and then be delivered. Each of these flights will be around 4 hours. B-HNM did up to a B3 or B4, and up to a C2 before delivery.....so it was well work by the time we took it! Big grin

Cx_flyboy- If you remember, how long did the flight take? What did you cruise at (altitude and speed) and how did you get up to SEA/BFI? (Did you fly to YYV then drive to Seattle?)

AA61Hvy,

I can't remember what initial cruise was at, but it was not long before we were up at FL350. We eventually cruised at FL430 by the time we passed Japan. (Max altitude of the 777 is FL431!) However because we were light, we still had a good 20 margin between the MERS (Minimum EnRoute Speed) and the overspeed tape.
We initially cruised at M.845, and then M.85 further down route. The flight took 13:57Hrs.

I had a feeling you guys were going to cruise up higher than normal, much smoother air up there.
CX-Do you remember the TOW?

Sorry if this is racking your brain!  Wink/being sarcastic Inquiring minds want to know!

I think TOW was 254.8 tonnes. Lots to spare. MTOW is 263,084KGs.
