A Month In The Life Of...

Wed Nov 19, 2003 12:47 pm

I found the "Month in the Life of..." posts regarding aircraft operations very interesting. I would love to see a post regarding this topic, but from a pilots standpoint. If anyone is willing to post a pilots schedule for a one month period it would be very interesting...

One of the many possible rotations for a NYC based DL MD-88 Capt or F/O....

Line construction summary (terminating points for the day)
01
02
03
04
05 TLH (3461)
06 MSY
07 EWR
08
09
10
11
12 TLH (3461)
13 MSY
14 EWR
15
16
17
18
19 STL (3405)
20 JAX
21 -
22 LGA
23
24
25
26 TLH (3461)
27 MSY
28 EWR
29
30

Then, the numbers in parenthesis go to the Daily line summaries...On other pages.

3461 is:

Day A
EWR ATL
ATL PNS
PNS ATL
ATL TLH

Day B
TLH ATL
ATL CLE
CLE CVG
CVG MSY

Day C
MSY CVG
CVG EWR

And 3405 is-

Day A
LGA ATL
ATL DCA
DCA ATL
ATL STL

Day B
STL ATL
ATL EWR
EWR CVG
CVG JAX

Day D (there was a day off)
JAX CVG
CVG FLL
FLL LGA

Long isn't it? This was taken from a December 02 pilot bid package, for NYC M80. There's about 45 different line construction summaries, and many different combos of daily trips. Assigned by seniority, when bidding opens the month before...lots of fun sittin there booking your sked! (I am sometimes stuck doing this for my father lol, when he's not flying, outta town, and can't make it to the computer....fun having *some* power over the trips  Big grin

I know the highest seniority 737 pilot at Continental; he seems to have a really nice schedule. For example:

1
2
3
4 EWR-ORF-EWR-RDU
5 RDU-IAH-PDX
6 PDX-IAH-SAN
7 SAN-EWR
8
9
10
11 EWR-ORF-EWR-RDU
12 RDU-IAH-PDX
13 PDX-IAH-SAN
14 SAN-EWR
15
16
17
18 EWR-ORF-EWR-RDU
19 RDU-IAH-PDX
20 PDX-IAH-SAN
21 SAN-EWR
22
23
24
25 EWR-ORF-EWR-RDU
26 RDU-IAH-PDX
27 PDX-IAH-SAN
28 SAN-EWR
29
30

The type of trips vary a lot for the 737. Some are day trips like EWR-ORF-EWR-ATL-EWR and some are longer like the monthly trip above. Some go to the Caribbean, some are a transcontinental and back, etc.

Another interesting one I thought of, an AA 777 captain I know who's based at JFK and flies reserve trips did not fly in the month of May. But the next month might be 99 hours of flying and few days off.
