What Was That FedEx Feeder A/C?

Mon Dec 15, 2003 1:16 am

Some time ago I recall reading about a potential FedEx feeder that was a single scimitar-type prop on the nose, driven by a PT-6 twin pack. The photo in the article showed a picture in FedEx livery. It was supposedly being considered as a follow-on replacement of the Caravans. What was this aircraft? Are there any pictures of it?

Thanks

The proposed Ayres Loadmaster. Never materialized though.

You can find some info on the Loadmaster here: http://www.flug-revue.rotor.com/FRTypen/FRLM200.htm IIRC, there were plans for versions for both FedEx and armed forces, which should both have been convinced by the large cargo hold.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

The a/c that killed Ayres. Ayres is back in a way. Thrush Aircraft bought the assets of Ayres from GATX, and restarted the Ayres Thrush line of cropduster under the Thrush name. The mockup of the Loadmaster still sits in the factory down in Albany, Georgia.

What happened that the aircraft never materialized? Why did it kill Ayres?

Why would God make us all so different, if He wanted us to be the same?
