APU's On USAirways Express Dash 8s

Thu Dec 25, 2003 3:47 am

Hello, I was looking at some pictures of USAirway's Dash 8s, and I didn't think I saw an APU on the tail. It could of been there, but I'm not sure. After looking at different overhead panel shots, I realized many Dash 8-100/200s do not have APUs. However, does Uairways? Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Yes, all Dash 8's flying DBA US Airways Express have APUs (100 & 300s for Piedmont & 200s for Mesa). They are in the tail cone, aft of the aft pressure dome. Hope that helps.

Wrong. none of Mesa's dash 8s have APUs.

They probably did have APU's, but the times I worked a Mesa Dash-8, I remember the cockpit being a sea of "INOP" stickers, after which point Mesa probably just pulled them out, to save weight.

They have that APU fire box (that only the 200s have for their units) in the aft empenage. Are you saying they're empty or deactivated? I've only been up there to look at the ACM before, but if that box is indeed empty, I'll stand corrected...

Yup. I was googling some stuff earlier, and almost didn't reply. But I thought I'd run it up the flag pole here...

Mesa pulled out the APUs on the 200s they got from PDT.
