744 Upper Deck Exit Question

Wed Feb 18, 2004 9:21 am

Hi all,
In this picture showing door 6R of a Korean Airlines 744, at the bottom there are two square-ish shapes that appear to be on hinges.

Could someone tell me what they are?

Thanks.

SafteyDude: Those are pressure relief panels. "Any attempt to pressurize the cabin when the door is not fully latched will overcome the spring load, cause the panels to open, and prevent pressurization." 747-400 AMM, 52-23-00, Pg. 1, Para. 3. Regards,

I take it that the panels open directly (i.e. outside air comes in) so that the plane cannot be pressurized at all?

Some more info would be great.
Thanks.

You can see similar things on the cargo doors of most planes too. From what I've seen they shut the cargo door then hit a lever that closes those pressure doors.
