They might be there to make it easier to see if any there is any icing along the leading edge. Beyond that, Im not really sure. Sorry I couldnt give a better answer!

Thanks FutureUALPilot. I was just wondering cause I've only seen it on pics of UAL 733s. I'll be flying a UA320 for the first time on Wed! (-)

FutureUAL...goin to FLL via. ORD A320 and 757, return flts are 757 and CRJ

Have a good trip KBUF, write a TR for us.

Anyway, for what it matters, I based my assumption on the other photos of a/c like the MD-80s and TWA aircraft who had black stripes that Id heard made it easier to see ice build up.

thats a very good question. Could be that other aircrafts wings cannot be viewed from the flight deck.
