At Cessna, there are basically three types of pilots:
1. Engineering flight test pilots. They fly the first flight of a new aircraft type, the prototypes and flight test aircraft. They perform the envelope expansion, flight flutter testing (wearing parachutes & helmets) certification flight testing. These guys do the risky flight testing.
2. Production test pilots. They perform the first flights of each plane coming off the production line. They check all the systems, etc and write up squak sheets of things that need to be fixed.
3. Marketing / demo pilots. They wear business suits and show the potential customers how to operate the coffee maker and entertainment center. These guys fly the completed airplanes.
The customers are usually responsible for the delivery flight of their new aircraft. Cessna may help in ferrying a jet across the ocean if a customer needs it, but this is rather unusual.
