Long Wait For New FAA Certificates: Heads Up

Sun May 30, 2004 2:08 pm

Hey all,

I just recently recieved my permanant CFII certificate in the mail, a mere 3.5 months after successfully completing the checkride. Having eaten up 100 of the 120 day useful life of the temporary ticket, I was starting to get a little nervous. Anyway, I'm just posting this as a "heads-up" for all those who have recently passed practical tests that the certificates are taking a long time to come in the mail. Hope this helps.

Incidentally, I really like the FAA's new plastic certificates rather than the old papers ones--much more attractive and durable. Want to know what it looks like? Pass a checkride!

Maybe they work a little faster when they screw up, but they worked pretty fast for me this last time. I got the wrong expiration date on my latest CFI certificate. I called the FSDO and they concurred with me and called Oklahoma City to get it reissued with the correct date. I got it inside a month.

An alternative to passing another checkride is to pay $2 and tell them you lost your old one and they send you a new one!  Big thumbs up

Or just change the social security to something else... and spend the $2 on a movie rental  Smile

Yeah, my 'permanant' CFI cert came right around 100 days after the ride as well.

It's been about 70 days since my CFI checkride and still no sign of my permanent in the mail. I have my CFII checkride on June 8th, assuming I pass, I guess I would surrender my temporary CFI ticket and still get to keep the permanent CFI certificate when it comes? Or will I have to surrdnder my old CFI certificate to somebody after the fact?

The one thing I still don't like about the plastic ones...no picture!!! The FAA really needs to think about having the certificate holder's picture put on there somehow...

KAUSpilot:

You just give them your temporary and keep the old permanent one when you get it.

I sent off for a Airmen Certificate back in January, Allowing me using my JAA PPL to fly without restrictions in the US, Took 3 months before I got a call from the Orlando FSDO to come in and get a temp license, and they said it'll take up to 120 days for my proper license to come through.

I guess it doesn't matter what your applying for through the FAA, it'll take a LONGGGG while.

it's easy to get an extension on your temp though, just call the local FSDO tell them your 120 days is almost up and they'll send you another temp haha.
