The last I'd heard about Varig's DC10-30F PP-VMU was that it was no longer in service and returned to the lessor December 2002.
However, on 5 June 04 I noted 'VRG8992' on HF routing Belem to New York JFK, type showing as DC10F on the flight-trackers and gave the selcal of GMAC which is the code fitted to PP-VMU.
Does one assume that it wasn't returned at all and is now back in service or am I missing something ??
Can anyone at either Varig, Belem or JFK on the day confirm please?
