Question About 777

Mon Oct 11, 2004 9:20 pm

Hi everyone.
currently doing a project on the 777 aerodynamics, performance and handling qualities
Can anyone here tell me how the 777's horizontal and vertical stabliser contribue to the 777 performance
Also does anyone know what contribute's to the stability of the 777?

Thanks for your help.

I think you need to ask a very much more specific question.

Without the stabilising surfaces, the aircraft would spin out of control. That is how they contribute to stability and their main effect on performance. This holds true for most aircraft and is not specific to the 777.

By the sound of it, I would suggest dropping the 777 for now, even if it is a favourite of yours, and focusing more on general handling and stability. You will have the opportunity to specialize later. Then you will be able to ask the question with a lot more precision as well.

Fred

As Mr T says, it's a very broad question.

However, in general, FBW aircraft can get away with a smaller empennage since the FBW can help by making frequent, very precise corrections even with limited surface area. Smaller empennage, in general, means less drag.
