Kclt Rwy Operations

Sat Mar 12, 2005 6:36 am

I'm hoping one of you guys/gals who know a little something about Charlotte/Douglas Int'l (KCLT) rwy operations can help me out with a question.

How is it decided which rwy to send an aircraft to? Is it based on which side of the terminal the aircraft is located, i.e. - Left or Right? or is it based on flight direction kind of like Atlanta where the 8's/26's are used for North and West dep/arr and the 9's/27's are used for South and East?

Thanks.

More than likely direction of flight. Last time we were there, we had to taxi across the airport to 18 left, even though our gates are very close to 18 right. Most large airports do it this way. Correct me if I'm wrong on the runway names, I've only been there once.

Tulsa International picks whichever runway will put the aircraft into the wind. Unless, it's at night and not busy or the winds aren't too bad. For example, FEDEX's terminal is located at the end of 36R, most of the time ATC will let them land on 18L so the can just roll to the end and go to their gate. This is at night of course when the aircraft operating are FEDEX 727s
