Longest Commercial Plane

Tue May 03, 2005 1:55 pm

Is the A340-600 the longest commercial airplane in production today? At 75.3m, would it be the longest in length? What else are the main distinction for this plane?

Yup, the A346 is the longest, the 773 was the longest for a very brief time until the A346 came out.

Undoubtly the longest. But personally feel the Fuselage length is a bit extra in comparism to the Wing span.
What would be the Pitch requirement for T/O.

I too thought the same until I saw one up close in Heathrow yesterday. A Virgin Atlantic bird parked at the gate; looked downright gorgeous. Very impressive beast. Personally, I think the 600 is one of the best-looking a/c out there.

The 346 is so long that the flight control system moves the elevators in order to counteract excessive fuselage bending and potentially damaging vibrations.

Funny thing, seems like most people don't define the AN-225 as a "commercial airliner", specially with all the hype about the A380 being the biggest "airliner". According to A.net's tech d-base, the AN-225 is still the heaviest aircraft in the world, at 600,000 kg MTOW, and the longest, at 84.0 meters.

It´s not in line service but is only a chartered cargo carrier. And with an unpressurized main fuselage a passenger version will remain somewhat unlikely. Even a lot of cargo is not fit to be transported in an unpressurized plane.

It´s a specialty, not an airliner.

OK, so the definition of "airliner" is a pax plane only? 747Fs don't qualify?

Any Wrinkles noticable on the Lower Aft Fuselage of the A346.

With only one built & used mainly for cargo.
But the AN225 is special.

Although the AN225 is not an airliner, once you've seen her you refuse to give the A380 the "giant airplane" credit the news has been giving it. The AN-225 is infinintely more impressive, though the A380 is a big sucker.

Maybe you should stand in front of an A380 as well before you attempt a final judgment...
