Seatbelt Sign Switches

Wed May 11, 2005 4:39 am

Hi I was wondering if anyone had Pics of the Fasten Seat Belt sign Switch in the FD and if so could you please post it for me. The no smoking switch would be cool too.

THanks

First, what is FD..? Every single fasten Seat Belt and No Smoking sign toggle switch look like any standard two pole switch you can buy at Radio Shack.

This is the best pic I found on A.net, but like I said before the No Smoking and Fasten Seatbelt switches are nothing more the a standard two pole toggle switch just like you would see at Radio Shack. Every single Flight Sim I have seen does them Very well. The switches are on the bottom row of the overhead panel. Exterior are almost always on the left side ( landing lights are T shaped), interior lights are on the right.

YOU can also do a search just like I did. I used:Boeing, Cockpit; keyword: overhead, remark.

Depends on the aircraft type. Sometimes they are rotary switches (e.g. 747-400) rather than toggle switches. They usually have three positions: OFF, AUTO, ON. See the bottom left of this photo.

The glass isn't half empty, or half full, it's twice as big as it needs to be.

Can someone explain to me how the AUTO function would work?! Is it connected to the Altimeter and switches itself on / off after a certain alititude or something?

Thanks

The AUTO function is probably different on every aircraft but the basics are, if I remember correctly, to do with flap position and gear position. So if you have the gear down the fasten seatbelts lights will be on or if the flaps are not up the F/S lights will also be on. This means the lights will be on from first flap deployment on approach until the flaps are fully up after the next departure.

The No Smoking signs are permanently illuminated on our fleet whether the switch is in the OFF, AUTO or ON position.

Connected to Gear & Flap position.[Gear down/Flaps Extended,sign on].
However since most operators do not permit smoking on board out here. The sw is in ON posn always.
