What is this for?

A listening device to eavesdrop on the French to retaliate for AF bugging its Business Class seats to spy on American businessmen a decade ago?

Not knowing their system first hand, I'd say it could be wiring for the IFE or Mux system.

I mean, no one can speak much as to its REAL purpose - to uncover traitorous dissidents who propogate malicious lies about the Most Wonderful Continental Airlines and the Highly Valuable OnePass Elite Program. Such traitors must be exposed and immediately dispatched to the Houston re-education camps to be re-aligned in the ideologies of the Great Leader Gordon Bethune and Dear Leader Larry Kellner.

Maybe they thought Michael Jackson was coming on board, and to make a few "bucks" were going to record what it said, humiliate the man then sell it to a tabloid for stupid amounts of money.

Don't pull it, it's not a wire, it's a chemtrail hose. If you pull it, the chemtrail will be sprayed inside the plane instead of outside.

That is the feeder loom for the entertainment system definitely. I am guessing that row 9 is probably the second seat behind door 2? On our fleet here at BY the sidewall feeders for the entertainment system are hidden by a seat and not positioned between them as seen here with CO.

But, the legroom could sure use some work.  banghead

Even though Continental’s coach is tight, this photo was taken at an angle that makes the lack of legroom look even less so.

I think its a cable for the MUX system under the seat or for the emergency lighting on the side of the seat.......Oh wait! After looking at it longer, I think it is a Flux Capacitor!

From a CO mech... It's either the wire for the emergency row lighting or for the entertainment system

That is definitely the feeder from the side wall disconnect for the entertainment system. The part number for the loom will be RD-AM????? something, depending on the length of it. Just behind that little grey panel there is a bracket with a disconnect for this loom. But when the sidewall panel has to come out you have to remove the plug break from this bracket which is a pain in the a** as the bolts are usually rounded off and it takes some effort to get them out. The reason they are rounded off, and anyone who has ever removed a Boeing plug from a bracket will know, is that they are held in by 5/32 bolts which are absolutely tiny and round off very easily if you don't get them going first time.

I believe Avionic Mech is correct. That looks like a cable for the Passenger Audio Entertainment System.

Doesn't look like a good place for wiring.
I don't know how it works for other folks, but my interior compliance DER would have a hissy fit if I ran wires where pax could play with them.

You are not wrong there Tod it is not a very good place for wiring but that is the design that Boeing chose. On our 757's as I said above we have these looms coming out so that they go straight under the seat and can't be seen.

On the 767 it is much better as we run the loom under the carpet so that it can't really been seen unless you are looking for it and you will see a bit of a bump in the carpet. But anyone who knows the 767 entertainment system will agree that is a right pain to get it to pass the master test as even a high resistance connection to a reading light bulb can cause it to fail.  Angry And also it will usually give you the wrong location of anything that is broken due to the fact the system doesn't like any damaged wiring and with have a hissy fit if it has any. But it certainly does keep us busy when trying to get the aircraft out the door at the end of a 'C' check when everything has been apart.

If that's the Boeing delivered location, maybe the seats have been repitched.

Reworking the carpet riser / sidewall panel shouldn't be too hard. Just relocate the penetration cover and put a blank plate on the old location.
