737 Flap/slat Hydraulic Systems

Mon Jun 13, 2005 4:19 pm

The flaps/slats on Delta's 737-200s are powered by A system hydraulics while the flaps/slats on our 737-300s and 800s are powered by B the system.

Three questions. Do all 1st gen 737s have A system powered flaps? Do all subsequent generations have B system powered flaps? Most importantly why did Boeing switch the system that powered the flaps from A to B?

Thanks
Dl757Md

p.s. No this is not another A vs B thread.......or is it?  Wink

I can tell you that from -300 on up, "B" system hydraulics are used.
I do not know why the change was made.

According to the Boeing 737 Technical Site:

The 100 and 200 aircraft used two Engine Driven Pumps (EDPs) for the A system and two Electric Motor Driven Pumps (EMDPs) for the B system. All 737s from the 300 onward split the systems with one EDP and one EMDP for each system (A and B).

They could have realigned the components on each system when they made this change.

By Splitting the System Pressurization source, each System [A,B] had one EDP and one EMDP each.
