CUZ Airport Questions

Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:24 am

I understand that due to crosswinds in the afternoons, operations @ CUZ airport are almost none after 1300h.
But how about crosswinds at night?
If there are no crosswinds at night, could there be landings and take-offs between, lets say, 2200h and 0600h ?
LPB, another high-altitude airport, is ok for night-time operations.

I thought it was due to altitude and heat? At 11,000ft they certainly come in fast and use most of the runway for stopping; afternoon departures seem to have weight restrictions and our take-off was somewhat gentle despite lots of thrust.

Are you going there? It's a great place!

At 11,000ft heat may not be the problem.
I would think all departures out of CUZ and LPB may have weight restrictions.
The main reason I hear CUZ only have morning operations (0600-1200h) is strong crosswinds in the afternoon. Don't know about crosswinds at night time.

CUZ is a hard airport to land at if memory serves me right. I went there about 5 years ago and it is a tough airport to land at because of the mountains. I think planes have to fly between some close mountains on final to land. I would say that night time landing would be difficult because of the terrain.

I'm only going by what the locals said! Heat may be a factor as it does get hot up there - 30 degrees C when I arrived.

I'm not suggesting you're wrong, but why would crosswinds only affect the airport after midday all year round? Weather is dynamic...

Note that there are several afternoon departures - I was on one of them.
