What Is This On The A330 Above The Door?

Sun Aug 28, 2005 10:56 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know what these things are above the doors of the A330?.
They are lines which look like ridges.
You can see them here when you enlarge this photo-

I thought that they could be some sort of clip to aid the docking of the passenger Jetway?

Thank-You,

Do you mean the "thingy at the door"?
It's a small metal channel that acts as a rain gutter when the door is open.

yup, i remember first seeing them on my first visit to the hangar, we were all trying to figure out these aerodynamic reasons for it, an when we asked we felt like right idiots!
As stated before, just so the hosties dont get wet when opening the door on rainy mornings!

I have seen such things also at other airliners. Don't remember which, perhaps 737.

To get the previous threads I posted in Reply 1, I did a search on "rain gutter" in the Civil Aviation (Archived) and Tech/Ops forums.

They are a little strip of metal stuck onto the fuselage above the door and all they do is keep water from dripping on anyone using the door while its raining, thats all. They are simple, cheap, and effective; and can be found on almost any airliner these days.

What could possibly go wrong?
