Static Dischargers On Wings

Tue Sep 13, 2005 2:25 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me with some info on the static dischargers on the back side of aircraft wings I have seen these but never known much about them. If some one could help with maybe some photo's of different types on different a/c from light to 747's etc. and some info that anyone knows or has some background with.

Thanks,

Hi Aaron,

this is an often discussed topic in this froum. Have a look at this topic. I think it will answer your questions: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/tech_ops/read.main/26986/

Here is an interesting summary about static electricity: http://www.fraser-antistatic.co.uk/PDFs/IntroductionToStatic.pdf
This job sucks!!! I love this job!!!

Thanks, both of you for your help

By the way I have to do an essay and oral on these and need to know as much info as possible, so to me right now any infomation is a blessing. However, what I need to accomplish is I need to demonstarte how they work (the biggest obsticle) and to do so need to obtain one. I worked for an Airline named Brindabella Airlines here in Canberra for a short while and know the guys there okay do any of you think it would be possible to obtain one through an airline? Also if not could anyone help me out with obtaining one?

Thanks for any help!  wink

Aaron,
wherever I have worked over the years any wicks that were changed were thrown straight in the bin; there's no point in keeping a u/s part like that. However you could try Aviation Salvage at Bankstown, IIRC their phone number is 9791 0200. They may have some bent or otherwise damaged wicks that are still attached to an aircraft wing and might let you have one cheap.
Monty Python's Flying Circus has nothing to do with aviation, except perhaps for Management personnel.

Thanks for the help!
Also, How much would a new wing cost if I got someone to order one?

Aaron, did you mean wick or wing? Either way, talk to Aviation Salvage. They will have serviceable second-hand dischargers of various types for a fraction of the price of new items, and they have entire wings as well; you might get a damaged wing from them for scrap value.

What exactly do you mean by in working condition? As in not snapped? Or do you need one with the correct resistance?
