Decals On Frontier's Tails.

Sun Sep 25, 2005 3:10 pm

The Sep./Oct. issue of Airliners has an article about Frontier Airlines. A short time ago there was a post with the names of the animals on the tails. It was nice to see pictures of them in the magazine.

My question relates to the picture on the cover of N918FR. It appears that the decal is shredding from the leading edge of the tail. There are more like it inside the issue. Could this pose a problem to rudder operation? Have these decals come off in larger pieces?

Just wondering.

The peeling is on the LE of the Vertical Stablizer,Which is bound to happen considering the Airflow at that point.

Yeah. that's the one.

I suppose if NZ could cover their planes in "The Lord of the Rings" theme, then just a tail should be ok.

On a related note, is there any weight penalty on a plane like one from NZ?

Anything added on would contribute to its weight.

the decal is put on in three peices.the one in the picture is an example of a not so good prep job.the decal is alot lighter than if the animals were to be painted due to all of the color in the background.  airplane
