"Fuel pouring out left side wing as she rotates."

It surly can't be fuel can it ?
I am here to be corrected but, why would there be fuel coming out the wing, was dumping fuel?, or is it one of those optical allusions ?

Cheers, Wrighbrothers

If you mean the trail from the tail area, it looks like it could be smoke from a chimney under the R5 door area in the picture.

There is a fuel 'overflow' mechanism in the outer wing though. You might be better off asking in tech-ops about it, and there is a picture in the database somewhere of an overfueled Air Atlanta 742 with fuel streaming from its outer left wing.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

It's fuel. With longhaul flights the aircraft is often fueled to it maximum fuel load. Fuel will sometimes make it into the surge tank and due to heat expansion. When the aircraft starts its take off roll a NACA duct allows air into the surge tank and can force the excess fuel out. Altough not common, it can happen with some flights.

This a/c, G-BNLM was in Cardiff for it's C-check while I was on my engineering scholarship there - is flying with a booster pump held in with my wire-locking, spinner on no. 1 engine fitted by me, crack in no. 3 pylon repaired by me...and that pic taken in sydney while I was still working there, just days afterward in fact... Quite humbling for a trainee engineer, was just hoping that fuel leak wasn't my fault Embarrassment
