What Is This? (see Photo)

Tue Nov 01, 2005 7:01 am

Hi,

Please see photos below. What is it? What exactly is this used for? Where is it located? If you can't see the text on the sticker, it sais:

DOOR MUST BE CLOSED AND LATCHED FOR TAKEOFF, LANDING AND WHEN NOT IN USE
Cheers

It doesn't look like a galley cart to me not with the screws around the out side of the door, it almost looks like an in floor safe of some desription.
The thing that really has me baffled is the red handle on the side of the box?

The other thing i have noticed is the blue cover on the door it is the same none slip surface you find on the floors of galleys etc

Looks like some kind of storage unit at the back of the aircraft.

Some context would be helpful... Where did you get it? Who is the manufacturer? etc....

I don't know yet, but I can get more info on it. I myself is really curious, and so far, nobody has told me anything about it. I hope I get some further info in the upcoming days.

Rest assure, if I find exactly what it is I'll let you know

Could be the door in the cabin door which allows access to the avionics room ?
Either that or it's a catering trolley door. ???

Looks like it is the storage unit on Dash-8's. It sits right behind the pedestal in the cockpit floor.

To me, it doesn't look like anything near the center console or anything else near the floor. Looking at the photos, there appears to be a ceiling above the box. If I had to guess, I'd say it's for storing the aircraft's AFM, MEL, or other aircraft library-type items. Then again, maybe that's where the crew's Uzis and ammo clips are stored...  Wink

Hi everyone,

So I found out what it is exactly. OPNLguy is right. This box is used in a number of aircrafts` flight decks and it's used to store manuals, etc. etc. so the pilots have quick access to it.

Regards,

Vio

MEL,

How's it going? Hope all is well with you. It's been a while since we talked.

No, actually I just found out today what it was. The sales guy who brought that to us only knew that it was used on a number of planes, on the floor, to keep manuals, etc.

None of us are in the aviation industry (as far as manufacturing goes), so we're not sure.

Cheers mate,

Vio

We're a packaging company so I have to design some sort of cushioning product for shipping.
