A380 Flight Deck

Sat Nov 12, 2005 10:58 pm

Hey,

I just enjoyed the pic of the A380 flight deck - looks like a lot of screens out there...

One thing I am wondering - there are those "sidescreens" next to the stick, looking like EFB or something, but jusdging from that pic here...

... it looks like a WIN-based application. Do they use that?

I am not saying that because WIN has flaws or so, I am rather wondering whether hey use standard popular OS's for airliners,,,

Anyone with details?

I know the Jeppesen EFB is Windows-based. There's a PDF file giving details of the system here:

The keyboard integrated into the captains "fold out table" looks cool, any idea what the keyboard would be used for?
Thanks

Is the Keyboard Foldable & stored or Detached & stored.I would think the latter.Looks great the Entire Cockpit.Very spacious too.

It looks as if the forward part of the table (or just its top layer) can be folded back to cover the keyboard when not in use. I guess it's a good idea not to put your food tray directly on the keyboard, even if the side screen is just for reference and communication...

Just like all the modern Airbus aircraft. I was on the flight deck of an Air Luxor A321 and when the captain put his laptop away and folded his table also the cockpit looked incredibly spacious.

With al respect (?) to Win, it seems that this OS would not be the best choice for A380. Everyone have in mind "blue screens", so beloved by computer users, or other errors. But seriously.... they should't go for Win. I don't know what else is out there to choose from, but there is got to be sth else.

WIN based computers would allow for Microsoft Flight Sim!!!  bigthumbsup
