When Will We See N787RR?

Sun Jan 01, 2006 12:17 pm

Anybody heard any news or seen N787RR, the Rolls Royce T1000 flying test bed? I know as of June 2005 it was in Texas being converted to a test aircraft but hoped there would be more news.

http://www.rolls-royce.com/media/showPR.jsp?PR_ID=40219

Also it's currently stored, where?

They are supposed to start testing the Trent 1000 on that 742 sometime in mid-2007.

It's been over a year and still no pics? Surely someone out there has some more info?

3 pics here http://www.rolls-royce.com/media/showPR.jsp?PR_ID=40493 the plane sure could do with a clean and proper paint job, not nearly as clean as the GE testbed. Be good to see if it comes to HK / HAECO for maintenance like the GE one did / does.

I saw this aircraft airborn over the Gatesville area west of Waco, Tx on Sunday morning.

At first I thought it was AF1, unitl I got a look at it through my binoculars.

Couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was until I saw this thread.

I think P&W had a 720 as their flying testbed but I'm not sure it still flies?

GE has a 747 and I believe in the documentary about building the 777 it's shown testing the engines as they have some fluctuation incident on takeoff which is quite interesting!

Very nice pics! I love the scalloped look on them!

Taking a look at the front view in one of the pics makes me wonder, is the intake on this engine larger than that of the ones on the 777's? What are the thrust differences between the models of engines used on the 777 and what is currently being tested?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Kind of suprised no one snuck down to ACT to catch an airliners.net picture of N787RR at her home base  Confused C'mon, Waco is only a 90 minute drive from DFW.

GE has N747GE. It has just finished GEnx initial flight testing and is being readied to fly CFM56 MMA next week. Part 2 of GEnx tests will take place later in the year. Pratt currently has a 747SP, if I remember hearing correctly--don't know the reg though.

Engine makers have been using testbeds for a long time. I can't speak for Pratt, but GE has used a B-66, B-47, B-52, 707, 727, MD-80, A300 and now its 747 for commercial testing. Look for the company to get a newer model sometime soon to replace N747GE.

Powered by, ironically enough, Pratt & Whitney JT9D's Big grin (except the #2 engine position when being used for testing...)

Soon to be changed....hopefully. There may be a CF6-powered 744 with GE's name on it. Finally we can get rid of the Pratts and all the jokes  Wink
