Flight Planning Utility?

Mon Feb 20, 2006 12:38 am

Hi all... Wasn't sure where to put this so I put it in Non-av (Mods, Move it if you wish, just lemme know where its moved to, k?)

Anyway, Doing Flight planning and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any decent utilitys where I can put in a departure airport, an arrival airport (and possibly the equiptment on route) also asks for a departure time and will give me the results which tell me the approximate local time of arrival?

Trying to Factor in Airport operating hours and noise restrictions...

Thanks if you find anything (I've been googling for hours and not come up with anything)
If worst comes to worst I'll have to sit down with a calculator, A watch, A pen and some paper

Here's hoping I don't (since I'll have to do like 30+ routes)

If when you say 'decent' you mean 'free, yet workable,' then I'm sure there will be some that will be able to give a no-wind time enroute based on a given true airspeed. There might even be some that will allow you to enter winds aloft.

When I was in dispatch school, we experimented with Jeppesen's flight planning software. It was somewhat quirky, but was able to build it's own route by taking into account airway restrictions, etc., and even took into account winds aloft valid for that time period. Also, it was able to manage aircraft profiles, and take those variables into account. I don't believe this service is free, though.

Golden Eagle works pretty well, but you need a pilot certificate to be able to use it, otherwise it's free.

Scroll all the way down.

Just downloaded that Golden Eagle thing... no such luck as it's American only. I need to plan these things on international routes, Ie, Longhaul that cross many time zones (hence why It's such a pain to do it by hand)

Since I'm at my mothers looking after her I don't have all my aircraft details and all my stuff I have written down on hand so I'll have to wait until I get home if I do it by hand...

Anyway, Thanks for your feedback

Non-serious mood here...

Get Flight Simulator and FSNav for the flight plans including the airways, aircraft's planned avarege climb rate and climb speed, cruise and average descent rate and descent speed... add fuel burns for those phases... and bingo, U got a simple flight plan...

Calculate your departure time in UTC and your arrival in UTC (yeah use that flight plan estimated flight time)...

Check with web resources on the operating hours of your departure and arrival airports...

or, use payware aircrafts and its FMC features...

30 routes? it's a doddle that way. Heck, get the charts mate and get the pen, paper and calculator out...  Smile

If you need an aircraft to model the flight plan with, search for Project Fokker F100/70 (avsim?) and get their performance data for flight planning... Interesting for learning.

When losing situational awareness, pray Cumulus Granitus isn't nearby !
