Maximum Push/Tow Angles?

I've just been told that the maximum push back angle on the nose gear of the A330 is only 6 degrees. Can anyone verify this? It seems very restrictive when compared to 727s, 737, DC9. Is the much larger size/weight ratio the reason? If it's true it really restricts the gate selections available at many airports.

What is the maximum for similar sized acft like the 777, MD11, 767?

No way, all airbus give you a lot of room for push/tow, the person probably meant 60 degrees, but it is more like 75. The worst one is the 757, where you only get around 40-50 degrees. THe 767 and 777 are kind of roomy. THe most room comes from all airbus, MD 88/90 and 737.

For the A330 the nose wheel steering limit using the rudder is +/-6 degrees and the tiller steering angle is +/-65 or 72 degrees depending on mod status.

There is a nose wheel towing angle FAULT light which comes on at 93 degrees.

Not sure what the actual towing limit is though.

I'm only a ramp rat but I'm wondering why our (NW MEM) training office was told 6.0, consequently the first day we had a 330 it had to be backed out almost entirely around the ramp area to face outward. Nothings done that before so I'm sure it was wrong info. Since our regular tech have been replaced I don't have a good source any more.

The 767's is quite generous...enough to be able to jockey that thing 180 degrees without too much hassle. The 88's are nice too.

On the CRJ you disconnect the torque links to push and the limit is when the push tug hits the side of the plane. Needless to say you can get that in some pretty tight places. The CR7 and the ERJ are in the neighborhood of 80-85 degrees before you start having problems. Thre are red lines that intersect at the limits on both aircraft. Normal Ops rarely requires more than 60 degrees in a tight airport.
