UAL @ NRT

Fri May 26, 2006 1:09 pm

Good evening everybody,

hope you are all well. I was just wondering when United 837 (B744) flys to BKK via NRT, it is supposed to arrive at like 14:15 into NRT and doesn't depart to BKK until 18:35. Does it get tugged over to a hardstand position or does it sit at the gate for 4 and a half hours? That seems like a long time to be idle at a gate using up valuable space. I know in FRA the IAD bird would get tugged over to a hardstand position until it took the SFO flight 5 or 6 hours later.

Simple explanation. There is a change of aircraft at NRT. Two different flights with the same flight number. They do that because it tricks people into thinking they're getting a direct flight on one plane. I've been fooled by this kind of situation. You have to look carefully at the fine print where it says "change of aircraft".

oh i didn't think of that...but what aircraft do they use then on those NRT - BKK flights? Where was its originating flight? It must have come from some US location...ORD perhaps?

Hi,

the departing a/c for UA837 to BKK seems to come from UA899 (LAX-NRT) while the 744 from UA837 (SFO-NRT) leaves NRT as UA852 to (again) SFO.
