Runway Length Requirements For B747-400 With Mtow

Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:09 pm

Can a Boeing 747-400 with MTOW operate from Stuttgart-Echterdingen's (STR) runway (3345 m)?

Go to the Boeing website and search for "D6-58326-1". This document provides airport planning data for Boeing products.

An elevation of 1276ft for this airport appears to be right at the threshold of the 744's capabilities for MTOW (with the runway length you provide) per D6-58326-1.

So legally - I guess I'd have to extrapolate some data to see where this answer falls..... From the theoretical/technical perspective I'd expect the a/c to make it without trouble provided no problems arose (requiring rejected takeoff, etc). Of course the answer depends on ambient conditions and engine type as well.

I am not a pilot.

I agree with Molycote.

Here is the 747-400 performance charts from the boeing website:

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/acaps/7474sec3.pdf

I am not 100% sure how to read it, but from the chart on section 3.3 with CF6 engines at sea level, flaps 20, at 0 pressure altitude with zero wind it would need ~10,500ft = 3200m. STR is at 1276ft altitude which probably pushes the runway length up to just under 11,000ft = 3352m which is not enough...... I would guess it would be very marginal and dependant on temperature on a particular day

BTW, this thread should probably be in tech/ops, you will get some better informed answers over there. Can a mod move please?

As I haven't posted for a while, I just forgot about that, sorry. But the mod reacted quite fast, thank you.
