Chaning a 767 engine in so. America when the amazon spilled over. we were working in three feet of muddy water. we had to jump on the engine stand occasionally as large snakes swam by. I thought for sure I would come back with maleria. best day was flying out of that s@#@ hole.

Welcome to the forum, Mcw!

One of my best days occured several summers ago. On a whim, I flew down to Al Meyers airport in Tecumseh, Michigan. That's where the Meyers aircraft company built their planes. Anyway, it just so happened the annual Meyers fly-in was going on that day. I landed, parked, and proceeded to stroll around, admiring the beautiful airplanes on display.

I ultimately ended up getting to fly an OTW biplane for a while, and boy, that was something else. At 80 kts on a north heading, I could feel the crosswind out of the east on the side of my face. I could smell the hayfields. The sound and intensity of the wind in the wires was a more effective airspeed indicator than any gauge.

For that flight, I might as well have travelled back in time. Nothing was any different. I was seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling the exact same things as anyone would have back in the 1940s. The sound of the valves clacking at idle, the smell of oil, the olive drab interior paint, the leather cap/helmet...it was like a trip back in time.

I vote no, because I'm not a pilot nor a mech, but I've still had one very bad aviation-related day (actually, MEL, I think perhaps you'll be familiar with it).

Hint: it was on Feb. 14, 1990.
