Etops Requirements For B737NG & B757

Sat Sep 02, 2006 10:05 pm

What are the requirements to Enable ETOPS Operation on B737NG & B757 Aircraft.
Also has Each Individual Airline need to be approved for ETOPS based on their performance or are there exceptions.

Hawk: I am surprised. I thought you would know of these things.

I recently flew for Air Sahara. I know of the DGCA requirements. I also know how things are done. Are you with Jet Airways? Or another carrier? Let me know discreetly on this thread and I will give you an email address to discuss things further.

Iam aware of the Local Regulations.
http://www.dgca.nic.in/ftppub/D2O-O8.pdf
But I wanted to know on Specific Instruments & Equipments on the Type Aircraft concerned with Worldwide operators.eg HMG on the B752 etc.
That when fitted would permit ETOPS

CO's 737NG ETOPS requirements are relatively small. We are required to have working HFs and the pilots have to cold start the APU at altitude once a month.
Is it broke...? Yeah I'll fix it.

Is once a month in Air start adequate to conform that the APU will have no problems on ETOPS flights.
What ETOPS is this duration wise.

Hawk21m do you mean what time and how long of the flt do you have to run the apu.We are starting ETOPS qualifications now and i think for the 180 min part of the ETOPS run is when the apu need to be running. airplane

Yes once a month is adequate. MOC monitors when an apu cold start is due. They then send and up-link to the flight crew through ACARS to start the APU. The flight crew then writes in the log book that an APU cold start was initiated and at what altitude. They also state whether it was successful or not. As long as it was successful there is no action required by MX. If the APU did not start the A/C will be downgraded to not ETOPS capable until the problem is fixed and another ETOPS verification flight is accomplished.

CO's 737NG fleet is rated for 75 minute ETOPS flights. We only use the NGs on certain Caribbean flights that require more flight time over water than the standard non-ETOPS 60 minute rule.

I can answer more of your questions about ETOPS on the NG and 757-200 but you need to be more specific on your questions.

Thats Very Informative thanks. However why is ACARS used to Inform the crew for carrying out APU start for ETOPS monitoring purposes. Why is the Crew not briefed prior to Flight. Is there a specific reason.

On the B752SF,apart from the Installation of HMG & HF units. What other Equipment would be needed to make a non ETOPS aircraft ETOPS enabled.

Crew can become forgetful... I guess a message in flight is a healthy reminder to carry out the test.  Smile

Out here, ACARS is the only notification the flight crew receives and ACARS captures all the data required for continued certification. A log write-up is required only if the APU fails after 3 attempts or if ACARS becomes inoperative during the operation.
When seconds count...the police are minutes away.
