Emergency Exit Slide Videos

Mon Oct 02, 2006 1:52 pm

Hi yall,

Do any of you have any videos of an emergency exit slide being deployed, or oxygen mask videos? If you do can you post them here, thanks. BTW Is this the right forum for this? If not suggest movement to a different form area thingy.

Thanks

Hey there,
PM me with your email and I can send you some videos of the A320 slides (floor level and overwing) deploying. Hrmm...maybe it would be easier to use YouTube.

Okay, I uploaded the A320 overwing exit video here:

and the floor level exit here:

Yay! I love evacuation slides used in a non-emergency situation.  Smile

Check out this thread for airline safety videos uploaded by others. Most have videos of the drop-down oxygen masks.

You obviously know something about this overwing slide.
What happens if the spoilers are up? I dimly remember there being an explosive charge in the spoiler actuator to make sure it was faired when the slide inflated. But I was just looking through the AMM and could find no reference to this. Any ideas?

Hrmm...sorry, I'm not sure. My knowledge comes from researching cabin safety manuals and materials, and that particular topic wasn't explictly covered. The B-757 and B-767 aircraft manuals do note that when the hatch is opened, the spoilers automatically retract.

HP 's A319/320 safety briefing video used to show a shot (taken outside the aircraft) of a main door opening with the slide deploying. Must have been fun blowing $20,000 (per take!) for a safety video ($20k is the number often bandied about on this site for the costs of re-stowing a deployed slide)

lol, I hope they got it on the first take  Wink

What I know sometimes happens is that the aircraft is required to deploy their slides during maintence on a periodic basis to meet FAA regulations. This is the perfect time for carriers to video tape the evacuation slides deploying, or actually having their cabin crew open door in emergency mode (for once!). Great training opportunity.

Oh, and don't forget to see the videos from the Air Cruisers site...

http://aerosafety.zodiac.com/?p=evacuation

They have videos on the B-777 slide deploying, in addition to others like the A320 slide/raft and MD-11 overwing slide.

Are you sure? Never heard about this feature on the A320 series. Found nothing in the AMM or my training manuals about this gimmick...

It was 20 years ago I did my course on A320, and I have never yet had trouble with an overwing exit. (except bottle pressure ind.)
So the question is, what happens when the overwing exit is opened and the spoilers are up?

Well just went out on an A319 and found out the answer. There is a gap between the inboard spoiler and the fuselage that is about 1.5m. So the escape slide and the spoilers do not interfere.
(Now I wonder where I got that explosive charge from???)

Hey, in the movie "Air Force One", the B-747 doors apparently are equipped with an explosive charge that blows them open...like, off the hinges open...  Smile
