How Long Does The FAA Keep Records Of Arrivals?

Wed Nov 08, 2006 12:34 am

How long does the FAA normally maintain records of arrivals and departures of private aircraft at controlled airports?

It there a law or regulation controlling this?

Data is kept for 45 days now as long as no incident or anything like that. It was 15 days up until ohhhhhh maybe 2 yrs ago now.

Thanks for your answers.

I’m interested in the question of whether back ups are normally kept as well. This relates to an issue I’m debating on another forum. I see that you both are ATC’s in Houston do you work at the same facility? Can either of you verify this for me one way or the other? I imagine you could check on this with one of your FAA coworkers. The period I’m interested in is Oct 2002 – February 2003 and the airport is Duluth International.

ATCT, IHFLYR was more certain do now think his was the right answer?

IHFLYR, you mentioned a change about 2 years ago, was this due to a directive from the FAA? If so do you happen to know the date/# or any other info that would help me find it on the Net?

Thanks again, Len

Can you be more specific on what you are looking for those dates?
I have some data floating around.....IFR only.

Jimbo as stated in my first post I want to know how long we would expect "records of arrivals and departures of private aircraft" would be kept.

If you meant 'why' (I make lots of typos too) it is because I'm debating the author of a book on another forum he claims he filed a FOIA request for the Oct. 25 2002 records from DIA in January 2003 and was told in February the records had been destroyed. He thinks this is sinister, I suspect it might be SOP. If IAHFLYR is right I am too, if ATCT is right about back up records being kept I might be wrong.

PS - IAHFLYR sorry about misspelling your username.

No typo. Yes, I did read your original question.

I guess you have your answer ... no need for any details!

I stand by my first reply, 60 days things are kept unless a reason to keep them longer.....if other things are done to keep them longer not sure, you may want to find out from FAA legal in DC!
