Fuel/Cost Per Seat: 737 Vs. Widebodies?

Fri Dec 15, 2006 1:01 pm

I have a hypothetical question regarding the fuel burn per seat (and the associated CASM) between a narrow-body like the 737NG and a contemporary wide-body like the 767-300 or A330-200. Here are the basic criteria:

- 737-700ER (BBJ) with 137 seats
- 767-300 with 280 seats
- A330-200 with 320 seats
- Mission range of approx 4,500 nautical miles
- Cargo is irrelevant

Basically, given equal comfort, how feasable is economy-class "point-to-point" service that doesn't rely on premium revenue like PrivatAir?
